Cards for a Cause (posted 2006-11-02) NEARLY 400 CARDS!: Kyloe and crew have made nearly 400 cards to bring messages of hope and support to the troops.
An amazing effort! Thirty-three denim squares were also sent off to a quilting project for soldiers. Thank you to all of those who shared their time creating and signing cards and donating jeans. Another Cards for a Cause evening will be scheduled soon.

THANK YOU! - Anna PRESIDENT’S CALL TO SER (posted 2006-05-04) PRESIDENT’S CALL TO SERVE: It was an honor to speak to an assembly of about 150 fifth graders at Clover Ridge Elementary. We shared in the honor of President Bush’s Called to Service Award and the events of greeting Air Force One. The “Call to Serve” includes an invitation for all Americans to dedicate two years of volunteer service to our country or the world. Find out more about national volunteerism at usafreedomcorps.gov. Check out their web - Anna DINNER BELL AWARD (posted 2006-05-04) DINNER BELL AWARD: Clover Ridge Elementary It was an honor to present an Eat. Talk. Connect! Dinner Bell Award to Clover Ridge Elementary. About 125 students participated in measuring 250 bags of biscuit mix and creating table conversation cards. The kids worked hard to promote Carver County Health Partnership’s “Eat. Talk. Connect!” movement, encouraging families to eat together. The project piloted at Clover Ridge will be shared with school districts throughout Carver County. CIVIC ENGAGEMENT: Mix It Up is made possible by a Learn and Serve America Grant and partnership with District 112. - Anna GRANDPARENTS NEEDED (posted 2006-05-04) GRANDPARENTS NEEDED: Bounce a baby or share a swing with a toddler! A lot of the families at Funky Minds have grandparents who live out of state. Please join us! Come anytime…especially on Mondays to Lunch Bunch. Moms so appreciate an extra hand or lap while fixing sandwiches or taking a moment to play with an older sibling. Our routine is relaxed and friendly, and we would love to have you join us. - Anna President Bush Writes (posted 2006-03-29) President Bush Writes East Union School: Smiles brightened many faces as Principal Lange and East Union Elementary’s second and third graders opened a package from the White House. The envelope was filled with
pictures, information about the United States Congress, and even a letter from President Bush congratulating the
students on their work with Cards for Kindness. WOW! - Anna CIVIC ENGAGEMENT (posted 2006-03-29) CIVIC ENGAGEMENT: In The Mix Colorful chef hats brought fun to a serious endeavor. Clover Ridge kids are working hard to encourage families to eat together. Work includes accurate measurement as biscuit mix is bagged and prepared for neighborhood distribution. Students are working to support Carver County Health Partnership’s “Eat. Talk.Connect!” movement. The project is made possible by a Learn and Serve America Grant. - Anna Cards for a Cause (posted 2006-03-29) 444 Cards for a Cause: On ladies’ night out, Kyloe and friends made 444 cards to be shared with terminally ill children around the country. The cards were mailed to Hawaii and will be distributed through the nonprofit organization, Keiki’s Cards. (posted 2006-03-29) National Service Learning Conference: An amazing and inspiring experience! I want to thank Dr. Susan Moore, Director of School District 112 Secondary Curriculum and Instruction , for creating the opportunity for me to attend this most outstanding conference. Youth leaders and instructors from around the globe gathered to exchange ideas and share energy around the idea of youth leadership and changing the world. Thanks to fifth graders Olivia, Matthew, Brennen, Amanda, Sam, and Katharine for leading Cards for Kindness on Chaska Elementary’s Fine Arts night. More proof that turning it over to the kids turns into a great experience. They organized materials, made signs, lead card stations, and even tallied our visitors. One day after greeting President Bush, Funky Minds received federal approval as a nonprofit organization. Yeah! This means that all donations to Funky Minds are tax deductible. Thank you also to Sue Thompson’s sister, Jackie, for the golf prizes that added laughter and fun to the evening. Our appreciation for support from all of the golfers and dinner guests. Volunteer firefighters, music class, adventuring into art, a garden party, bluegrass music, and a third addition of the Dragonfly Gazette. A quick trip to Hawaii, too! Check your calendar and gather in the fun. - Anna Art Show: Funky Art (posted 2005-06-04) Thank you to Chaska Community Center for hosting a Funky Minds art exhibit. The show includes a self portrait by Mayor Jim Weygand, four East Union Elementary teachers, as well as a host of projects by local kids and parents. Thank you to Sue Thompson for the artful spirit she shares with all of us. We love you Sue! (Show through June 10th) - Anna Cards for Kindness Project (posted 2005-05-01) Kyloe Fisher and Anna Edlund will be making visits to local schools during the month of May. Area students are invited in a service learning project by making cards to be distributed in the community. Members of the community will be encouraged to share the “Random Acts of Kindness” cards with friends, neighbors and local business as a way of building connections in the community. - Anna GRANTS (posted 2005-01-01) Three grants were awarded to Funky Minds and our volunteers: 1. “Cards for Kindness” is a grant in partnership with Chaska School District 112. Students in four pilot schools will participate in a service learning project promoting community literacy and connection. 2. Sue Thompson received a grant to expand her art enrichment program, connecting community by creating art with all ages. 3. A community baby shower will be offered to District 112 families with children birth to five months. The Chaska Community Center has volunteered space and the event will involve the participation of numerous area agencies, faith communities, and businesses.
