COMMUNITY ART INSTALLATION

In a time when so many of us are apart, you are invited to join together in creating a community art installation. Simple sticks wound with colorful yarn represent our unseen connections with one another and the natural world.

WHO: ALL are invited to participate. Families, youth groups, schools, faith communities, neighborhoods, senior centers, other community organizations. Link to Printable Directions Link to Simple Printable Direction Cards

WHERE: Gazebo Park in downtown Carver is our home-base so add your art at our display in the park. Or, choose another visible space to display your creation. A tree in your yard, a tree in your neighborhood (invite your neighbors to help, too!), outside your business or faith community, near a school, daycare or hospital.

EXPAND: Invite your organization to participate. Wind clothespins with string. Make the yarn clothespins available to others by clipping them to a tree. Provide simple directions.

DIRECTIONS:

A. CHOOSE A CLOTHESPIN WITH YARN.

B. FIND A STICK.

C. WIND YARN AROUND THE STICK IN A DESIGN.

D. HANG STICK IN A TREE!

CHILDREN'S BOOK CONNECTIONS: "I AM ONE: A Book of Action" by Susan Verde, and, also, "The Invisible String" and "The Invisible Web," books by Patrice Karst.

HINT: While the Funky Minds crew enjoys the mindfulness of winding yarn by hand, a drill is a clever way for adults to efficiently wind large quantities of clothespins.

POST YOUR DESIGN: Twitter @communitystrings or Carver Life on Facebook.

Watch for STAGE TWO as the temperatures drop: LIGHT SHINES IN COMMUNITY!

Young Carver-area citizens lead the Steamboat Days parade with a dove created by community children. The peace dove is inspired by globalist Jane Goodall to inspire peace across all villages.

"It's a home away from home." The words reappeared time and again on the window of our Historic Funk Bank meeting place. We took the Funky Minds spirit with us from place to place before finding a new home in the historic Church by the River. Thank you City of Carver!

The Funky Minds cast and crew assemble the Kiddie Parade before heading down the main street of town.
